If you are like everyone else...
“Be aware of wonder. Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.” Robert Fulghum I work hard and play hard. Sometimes it is hard to live a balanced life. When you play too hard your finances, motivation, and body suffer. Sometimes we work too hard and suffer the same symptoms. We lose motivation, our physical wellness is compromised, and sometimes our finances suffer by working too hard. How can that be possible? Have you ever noticed that your business actually increases when you walk away sometimes? Whether you go on vacation, or just walk away from your desk for an hour. Sometimes the pressing answers are present, but we are unable to tune into them. Taking some time for yourself can bring some amazing results for your most pressing problems. Now if you are the type of person that does not feel comfortable taking time for yourself, there is a balance issue going on in your life. Why do we work so hard? Have you ever asked yourself why you are busting your hump? That is a very important question, with an infinite number of answers, but still important to ask. If you are the type of person who likes to play all the time, and hates work…well there is a balance problem there as well. I used to think I wanted to go the beach everyday. The rewards are not as enjoyable when all you do is have fun. Sounds nice, but we need something that contributes. Without contribution to something we lose confidence and motivation. My wife is able to retire from her teaching job, but she loves what she does. She contributes to 36 future members of our society everyday and that is has its own reward. My life used to be way out of balance financially. That caused me to constantly think about money. It is not all about money. If someone tells you that money is not important, you may want to ask yourself what else they would lie to you about. It is about balance. My debt side of the balance sheet way out performed my equity side of the balance sheet. This caused me to constantly think about money, and debt, and work, and business. My physical life suffered, my spiritual life suffered, my relationships suffered. There is no balance there. I do work hard and enjoy my life because I feel like I contribute. This allows me to have more joy when I play hard as well. I did learn that once you get the financial side of your life balanced, the rest of your life is able to prosper as well. Being able to do what you love vs. go to work for a pay check is a huge reward. Nick Logan http://thebeachbumlife.com |
